CSIC NM024- Authomatic chamber for building materials ageing test due to insolation
Institute of Economic Geology of CSIC has developed a device which pretends to be a tool for the study of insolation weathering of building materials. It also has the possibility of carrying out continuous and coupled measures of several parameters dealing with insolation weathering.
The authors of this invention are interested in considering any type of collaboration, both scientific and commercial exploitation of this device.
Specification sheet:
DESCRIPTION

This device has been designed to make accelerated ageing as well as characterization tests under more real conditions than those described in normalizations.

For this purpose, the structure of a conventional stove has been used, creating an stainless steel chamber in which samples are placed vertically and subjected to an infrared and/or UV heat source.

The main advantages include the possibility of recording continuous and coupled measurements of several thermal parameters (temperature distribution and dilatation) with a computer.

This design includes necessary improvements for a better modelization of actual conditions of building materials. The heating of samples is made with infrared and/or UV lamps instead of an indirect heating source that minimizes differences between stony materials. This provides the possibility of testing slabs and/or blocks.

For the first time in this kind of designs, the device can be programmed with complex cycles allowing short-term fluctuations to be tested.

In addition, this instrument combines insolation and water effects. So far this moment, water effects were essayed with immersion tests, but in this case an automatic spray system with controlled composition modelling rain is used.

All the mechanical control elements used on previous designs have been changed for another electronic ones leading to a completely automatic process.

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS

Mainly the coupled use of:

Radation heat sources.

Spray sistem (modelling rain)

Bigger and vertically disposed samples.

Dilatation and temperature measurements at various thicknes.

Programation and authomatic control.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

Laboratory modelling of building insolation weathering from which we can obtain low-cost thermal durability parameters of building materials more in accordance with the actual ones than those obtained with normalized tests.
