CSIC TIC011- Blind deconvolution and superresolution method for image sequences and image sets, and its applications
A group of scientists in the Spain public research council has developed and registered a new method to correct and improve misfocused and/or blurred images or photograms using a mathematical algorithm based on blind deconvolution. The inventors are looking for companies related to the image treatment field interested in some type of licensing agreement
Specification sheet:
DESCRIPTION

"The present invention relates to techniques for digitally capturing and processing images of a scene obtained by standard image detectors, and more particularly, to a method for processing and correcting blur or degradation introduced into such images by a moving or out-of-focus camera or any standard video equipment. The procedure is based on the simultaneous processing of the input images and its correction (deconvolution) pixel by pixel through a new mathematical algorithm.

Moreover, in the case of having more than one image from the scene the method is capable of providing superresolution performance. It has direct applications in digital cameras, video cameras, cellular phones, photographic and video programs, image analysis programs in microscopy and astronomy, medical imaging, forensics, security systems based on imaging, aerial photography and restoration of pictorial or graphic representation, among other related applications.

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS

This new method of blind deconvolution allows simultaneously making image restoration and superresolution. More precisely that blind deconvolution method represents an advanced technique compared to previous applications on the market. The new treatment can compete with other methods known so far

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

This method of image treatment offers a new way to correct images or photograms until achieving a maximum of contrast and definition in order to satisfy customers’ needs. Other advantages include the capability to optimise operations by quickly adjusting program parameters, consequently, reducing operation time
