CSIC NM012- Device to measure the conductivity coefficient, specific heat and enthalpy.
This innovative measurement system is based on three thermic properties: conductivity coefficient, specific heat and enthalpy, in a wide range of temperature cornered between –30ºC and +30ºC of room temperature. The system is economic, quick-operating and easy to use which can be used for research, education and quality control.
Specification sheet:
DESCRIPTION

This new measuring technique which has been denominated ADC Analogical Differential Calorimetric, is based on the comparison of a real model composed of two thermal foci electrically acclimatised by the Peltier effect and regulated, between which the sample to be measured is introduced. This device includes a set of insulating and protective elements, which permit the heat flow orthogonal to the sample to be measured in a central zone. Comparison is made with a theoretical simulation model, developed by electrical analogy resolved by computer. For each measurement, the temperatures and heat flows of the real model and environmental conditions are introduced into the computer and the values of conductivity and specific heat of the simulated samples are modified until a suitable correlation is achieved between these. // The programme precalculates the conductivity coefficients, specific heat of the sample and corrects the thermal inertia of the system by successive approximations. It then stores the values of the conductivity coefficients, specific heat and the difference in enthalpy which is obtained by integration of the specific heat.

The measuring system repeats the measurements and again sends the data to the computer, this continues until the process is complete. During the experiment, the temperatures, heat flows entering and leaving the sample, coefficient of conductivity, specific heat as a function of the time or temperature and change in enthalpy as a function of temperature can be immediately visualised on several screens.

This is a simple instrument that can be used after only a couple of hours training.

This measuring system has been developed to define the thermo physics properties of foodstuffs, thermal accumulators and insulation materials, but it’s possible to use it in other industrial fields. One of the first prototypes developed is used to research ceramic products, and other one is used for quality control products in a thermic insulator plant.

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS

On the market, there aren`t any other system to measure the conductivity coefficient, specific heat and enthalpy at the same time.

The protection to obtain quickly the orthogonality.

The software developed

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

This instrument permits the rapid measurement, in real time of three important thermophysical properties in small but representative samples (9*9*2 cm) by an economical technique compared to previously known technologies.

It is easy to be used.
