CSIC ENV006- Method for obtaining storable products of calorific energetic and synthetic oils by processing waste rubber materials with coal.
Institute of CoalChemistry of CSIC has patented a new method for obtaining synthetic oils by co-processing of waste rubber, specially waste tyre, with coal. Eventually with a catalyst based on iron. The process consists on a thermolysis / hydrothermolysis, during which medium calorific power gases, high calorific residue and the synthetic oils are obtained. The Institute is looking for licence agreement with Industrial Partners interested in rubber recovery to obtain oils.
Specification sheet:
DESCRIPTION

The process consists on a blending step of the shredded rubber (particle size between 1-5 mm), the coal (particle size 0.2-1mm) and, when used, an iron-based catalyst (0.05-0.015 mm) followed by a thermal processing of the blending at 300-500ºC, for 3-180 minutes and at 1-10 MPa. to recover the synthetic oils.

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS

The main innovative aspect is that a residue is used as hydrogen donor to recover synthetic oils from a fossil fuel without the classical required hydrogen supply.

This process fits with the solid residues legislation that will force from 2006 to recycle 80% of the residues generated during any process.

As an integral process, synthetic oils are recovered from a fossil fuel and a waste material without the traditional hydrogen gas supply.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

Two are the more competitive advantages:

1. Lower cost because the hydrogen content of a residue is used to generate better synthetic oils from a fossil fuel and because a higher oils yield is obtained.

2. High conversions reached in comparison to other classic thermal processes.
